Rhys SUmner - Freelance Producer
Can you tell us a little bit on your time at UCLan and how you interacted with the course?
Whilst at UCLan I studied Music Production. The course greatly enhanced my understanding of the subject and helped to improve both my written and presentation skills. Furthermore, the course introduced me to different areas of music and the creative arts, such as audio & visual installations, Art movements and a vast variety of music - both contemporary and experimental.
Also at UCLan I worked as a student ambassador, met lots of people and made life long friends.
What has your career path been since graduating UCLan?
Since I graduated from UCLan, I have applied for a PGCE in Primary Teaching and I am currently volunteering at my local primary school as a classroom assistant. Alongside my voluntary work I create and produce music under the name ‘Saint Diskette’.
Last October I was involved in a collaborative project named ‘The Life of a Song’ where I worked with Imogen Heap and other collaborators through Brighter Sound. Over the five-day project we wrote a composition, recorded it and preformed it Live at Band on The Wall in Manchester. The piece was called ‘Marble’ – (By Frink Frink) and it was released on ITunes, Spotify and other platforms.
Additionally, I have worked with the Global Sound Movement to create an EP to showcase the versatility of both their Uganda & Cyprus Sample Packs.
