On the 7th & 8th March, 2017 UCLan Music Production hosted its first JAMES Masterclass event. The two-day event gave existing and prospective students the opportunity to hear from professionals currently working in the music industry. Spread across the two days were three events.

The first of the three events, an interactive panel, was a great opportunity to hear professional producers' thoughts on various topics, and have them answer questions on all sorts of topics. The producers featured on this panel have experiences with talent such as George Ezra, London Grammar, Elbow, Coldplay, Red Bull, and DJ Jazzy Jeff to name a few.

For these drop-in sessions, Cam Blackwood and Chris Taylor were stationed in the Media Factory 's state of the art recording studios to provide feedback on students work. This was a great opportunity for the students to get quick-fire constructive criticism on their work from contemporary industry professionals. The advice from the professionals ranged from performance and mix tips, to suggestions on durations and workflow.

The MasterClass

This Masterclass saw Cam Blackwood produce a piece of music in collaboration with some of the students using the newly refurbished Studio 2, featuring the Neve Genesys Black. Cam showed the students how he would typically begin working with an artist, their composition, and their performance. After laying down demo tracks, Cam moved on to recording things proper, allowing the students to observe his techniques and thought processes.

Cam is currently working at Voltaire Road Recording Studio in London, and has worked with talent such as George Ezra, London Grammar, Eaves, Gavin James, Florence and the Machine, and We Are Scientists, to name but a few.
