UCLan's Music Production BA (Hons) and JAMES teamed up to host two days worth of unique events in early March.

The Producer's Panel kicked things off on the morning of the 7th. Four special guests discussed all manner of topics surrounding the music industry, and took a variety of questions from the audience. Dennis Weinreich, the chairman of JAMES, hosted the panel. His years of experience in the music industry made for some great stories. Alongside Dennis was Chris Taylor, the studio manager at Parr Street, Cam Blackwood, currently working with George Ezra on his new album, and Katie Tavini, an audio engineer working with Red Bull, doing great things for women in the industry. The audience consisted of students from UCLan, as well as colleges from the surrounding area.

Later that day, Chris and Cam hosted some Listening Clinics in Studio 1 & 2. This gave students a fantastic opportunity to have industry professionals critique their work. In between clinics, Cam and Chris had time to speak highly of the quality and diversity of our students' work.

March 8th saw Cam host a day-long Masterclass in Studio 2, featuring the newly fitted Neve Genesys Black. Lauren, one of our second-year students, collaborated with Cam to produce a piece of music right from the demo stage. This provided a unique insight into Cam's working process, and gave students the chance to learn some useful tricks and tips. A few more of our students in the audience got involved to provide some drums, percussion, and bass, too! We had Liz and Dave come from Neve to check out the Genesys Black and do a Neve prize draw, too.

This series of events was a success for students, staff, and guests alike. All of us on the Music Production team had a great time, and the feedback from all involved was very positive! Watch this space for more events like this.
